UC5
Description
This use case proposes the deployment of a 5GLAN across a distributed set of independently administrated local services and access networks (WiFi and 5G), based on the same concept as the existing Eduroam (www.eduroam.org). This means offering a service across academic institutions that enables users of different education entities to use connectivity services at virtually any location on Eduroam. This use case will demonstrate the capabilities of the FUDGE-5G Platform to support seamless connectivity of devices across multiple own administrated domains. The 5G-Eduroam use case will validate seamless connectivity, security and the isolation capabilities to the home network of the involved components across two 5G-VINNI sites with different locations. Alternatively, multiple locations in the same university campus might be connected as separated LANs.
Challenges
The main challenge of Interconnected NPNs UC consists on maintaining the addressing and communication by the host institution regardless of the location of the user within the Eduroam network, be it either resident to the campus or external visitor. Therefore, access to resources in the home institution must be provided seamlessly while roaming between indoor and outdoor areas. To be able to assure the transparent authentication and authorization of the users of different locations, the Interconnected NPNs UC will need to connect the different locations with through a common interconnectivity solution.
Innovation
This use case will demonstrate the capabilities of FUDGE-5G to support seamless 5GLAN communications in a campus area. Going beyond this basic deployment, Interconnected NPNs UC will provide a means to authenticate and to authorize devices to communicate while devices are roaming into other local networks and thus to provide local connectivity services.
Activity Plan
Activity 1:
In this activity the Implementation of SCP and SEPP will be performed, which will together serve as SBC in the networks. Also, the integration of SBC with the 5G Core network will be done in this activity.
Activity 2:
Verifying the feasibility to deploy Open5GCore in Telenor and UPV campus will be done in this activity. Open5GCore with SBC solution will be deployed in Fraunhofer FOKUS, Telenor Research Campus and UPV Campus. As part of this activity the integration of RAN and UE with the 5G Core deployed will be done for each of the sites.
Activity 3:
As part of this activity connectivity between the three locations will be established and tested. Also data plane support and backhaul management for interconnected NPNs will be covered in this activity.
Activity 4:
In this activity authorization framework already developed will be extended. In this activity we can work on RADIUS based authentication support for visited subscribers. Data Plane support can be extended for home routed roaming also.
Activity 5:
Integrating the framework with IDE platform and exposing service-based APIs for one NF and supporting dynamic deployments for the Nfs.
Activity 6:
This activity comprises of defining test scenarios for validating the framework, performing the test scenarios for verifying the functionalities and validating the solution.
